Projects/Sub-Projects/Categories - Best practice?

Post by Knubbi »

Hello, Thanks for Mantis, which looks awesome!

We want to use Mantis for bug tracking and feature requests for our several applications, which are available for a variety of OS platforms, like

Tippsy for Windows
Tippsy for Mac

Dubsy for Windows
Dubsy for iOS

My approach:

Project: "Tippsy"
Sub-Project: "» Windows"
Sub-Project: "» Mac"

Project: "Dubsy"
Sub-Project: "» Windows"
Sub-Project: "» iOS

Global categories: Bugs, Features

Questions:

* Is this an approach you guys would recommend?

* What is better? Global categories for "bugs" and "features" or separate categories within each project (or even sub-project)?! Would there be a practical benefit of keeping these categories separate for different projects?

* Is there a way to create custom URLs to create new entries with pre-defined projects, like http://mymantis.com/bug_report_page.php ... ect=tippsy[/u] ?

* How to pre-select dropdowns with preferred defaults, like specific version number?

Thanks for any feedback.

I would not use Sub-Projects, but use the existing Profiles functionality to distinguish different OSs.
Another approach could be to create custom checkbox, e.g. something like "Affected Platforms": Windows x, Mac x

I would use the existing "Severity" field to distinguish between "bugs" and "features".
Please use Search before posting and read the Manual
