I've just had this same issue. Many of our issues have just disappeared. How could this have happened? I find it hard to believe that someone went in and willy nilly deleted random issues.

I am just installing 1.1.7 for the first time and ran into the same error. Here is how I fixed it:

I exported my entire mantis db (drop table and insert table commands), replaced 'latin1' with 'utf8', and then ran the exported sql statements. No more error msg.

I've searched in these forums and online and can't yet find a solution to this issue. I am using Mantis v1.1.7, mySQL v4.1.7 and PHP v4.3.11.

This is the error I receive after having installed mantis:

APPLICATION ERROR #401

Database query failed. Error received from database was #1267: Illegal ...
