As its indicated in description the smtp port is NOT 25 for gmail. Try it with the one mentioned and check if you receive mails then.

You can do that, once I had two different install on the same computer, with different DBs. Its gonna be damn confusing though, so it would be nice to know more about the specific reason you mentioned, to see if we can approach the problem from a different angle.
