Hi venkat:

To add a new project you have to have admin rights on Mantis. Assuming you have that, you should see a 'manage' link and from there a 'manage projects' link.

Create your project, add categories and so on from there.

If you're just starting out, the best thing to do is set up an installation that you can dump later. This way, you can just play with the system and not be worried about breaking anything.

There's *lots* of functionality and there is no way that you will be able to do it all without playing with it yourself. That's really the only way you can get a feel for the system, so that's my suggestion.

Otherwise you'll get bogged down asking lots of questions, waiting for lots of answers that may or may not come...

Also, if you can, jump in to the mantishelp channel on irc.freenode.net if you have any quick questions that you might want answered. Who knows, there might even be someone there to answer you :)

Anyway, click 'manage', then 'manage projects' to start.... Assuming you have the rights to do so.

Hope this helps,
Lincoln.

That depends on what exactly you are aiming for.

For instance, my mantis has 3 categories for coding projects:
General Enquiry,
Report an Error,
Request a feature/enhancement.

If you only want to use bug, that is your perogative ;)

I agree with bmccool.

There are very few absolute, hard and fast rules, very few "you must do it this way" type things in Mantis.

This is one of those situations where it is up to you.

Unfortunately no-one else here knows the products that you are working on, so no-one can give you a true answer...

In a lot of respects it would be like asking "what am I meant to use as the heading for my email?" Well, it all depends on what it's about!

Some people just have one category, depending on the product. Other's have 20 or 30 categories!

Truth be told, what you need to do is play with Mantis enough to feel confident enough about how it relates to your products. That's the bottom line. Unless you know how everything relates to your products, you're going to find a lot of areas which don't make sense...
