We wrote a perl import script that takes data from a csv file and uses the bug_report.php page for submitting as opposed to trying to directly write to the database. It also works with custom fields. It takes a little bit of time preparing the csv file, and changing a few lines of code for custom fileds, but it worked perfectly on over 3000 bugs

Skibumm101, it would be great if you can submit an issue to Mantis Bugtracker (http://bugs.mantisbt.org) and attach the script to it. I'm sure there will be many who can benefit from this work and help enhancing it further.
