My company is starting to use mantis more and we now have close to 10 projects under development using it for defect tracking, and I am trying to make sure we are using mantis effectively.

I have searched in the forums for info on "subprojects" and have found multiple questions where people ask the difference between a project vs a subproject or info on how to use subprojects... but none of the posts have gotten a response.

Can comeone clarify how to use a subproject?

Caveat: I'm still a beginner, but I believe I know the answer to this.

As described in the manual, "subprojects" are really just projects, but you've told one project it's the parent of a second project. The second project is now both a "project" and a "subproject". You probably know that already.

You use subprojects to organize your tickets. For example, I have a project for all Meetings group projects. I have two other projects for the 2008 Meeting and for the Meeting Blog. I made those two projects into subprojects of the Meetings group.

Now I can view the Meetings Blog project and see all of its tickets. I can view the Meetings group project and see ALL tickets for meetings -- both 2008 Meeting & Blog tickets.

Even better, I can make the Meeting Blog project into a subproject for something else. The blog is news-related, so I made it the subproject for my News Division project. That makes certain I'll find the ticket no matter which manager I'm working with at the time.

Hope that helps.
