Possible to use TextArea as custom field?

I can use textfield as custom field, but we want to use a TextArea as a custom field to add several lines of text. Is this possible?

At the moment this is not possible. All custom field types that are currently supported are stored into a string. To support text area both the database schema and the code will need to be changed.
Please report an enhancement request in the bugtracker.
