I'm looking to see if there are features to send me a reminder of due dates and items that haven't been closed;

also, is there a way to have a calendar, similar to a google type thing - where we could put work plans etc ?

This week-end you'll find a plugin to do that on my website (in the signature).
Or check the bug 5887 to install now the current version.
