Whenever a user attempts to upload a file, the following error occurs:

File upload failed. This is likely because the filesize was larger than is currently allowed by this PHP installation.

Details of my installation:
Mantis 1.0.0a2
PHP 4.2.2

File Uploads:
File uploads are ENABLED.
File uploads will be stored in the DATABASE.
The following size settings are in effect. Maximum upload size will be whichever of these is SMALLEST.
PHP variable 'upload_max_filesize': 2000000 bytes
PHP variable 'post_max_size': 8000000 bytes
Mantis variable 'max_file_size': 5000000 bytes

Any ideas?

When storing in the database, I believe that the MySQL setting 'max_allowed_packet' is also a factor.

Is it for any files, or just ones that are over a certain size?

Any file... I've tried ascii and binary files ranging from just a few bytes to several MBs.

FWIW, I tried changing the upload method to DISK, but I'm still experiencing the same application error #500 issue.

Attempted to upload a 20k .gif file

I don't know very much about the architecture of Mantis but maybe you will need write access to a temp folder?

Yeah, that what I thought at first, but I confirmed that the uploads directory permissions are set to:

drwxrwxrwx

So, I'm still baffled as to why Mantis keeps reporting an error 500

ok, the saga continues. I read the bugnotes posted in the link above and downloaded the following code revisions from CVS:

core/php_api.php -> 1.15
core/file_api.php -> 1.67
proj_doc_update.php -> 1.28

Things are a bit better... I still can't upload files, but at least the error report indicates that I'm making some progress. I'm no longer halting at the initial error check, but I'm now seeing APPLICATION ERROR #504 which seems to indicate that the file being uploaded is null:

Victory! It turns out that the file I was trying to upload was indeed empty. I went back and uploaded a real document and everything seems to work properly. I'm a little nervous about using interim code (i.e. not part of a specific stable distribution), but at least my uploads appear to work correctly now.

Well, maybe my enthusiasm was a bit premature. It appears that I can now add files to existing bugs, but Mantis throws errors when I try to attach a bug during a new report.

Could you provide the extended error message for this problem?

This error arises because the upload path (in the project definition) either doesn't exist or is not writable.

Is that possible? The upload path as defined by:

g_absolute_path_default_upload_folder

Appears to work fine if you're uploading a file from within an existing bug report. The only time it doesn't work is if you're trying during a new bug report. I confirmed that the path exists and is writable by the web server, plus it's where the uploaded files reside right now.
