Can you tell me how you use these two statuses?
When an issue is posted a reviewer reads and acknowledges that it is a issue?
I just don't see the use, I would assign the issue at that point.

Some folks used "assigned" to indicate that someone is actually working on the problem. Confirmed implies that the issue exists, but no one is working on it. Acknowledged would be feedback that someone has read the issue.
