how to add custom fields

Can somebody help in setting the custom fields. I want to add one custom field. what should I do. Which table in the database the dat will be stored?
Custom fields are added through the UI. If you have the right permissions (probably administrator), there should be a menu item called "Manage" on the main menu. This leads to a submenu with "Manage Custom Fields". You can define the fields here.
Through "Manage Projects", you can link the custom field to the individual projects.
(The data is stored in mantis_custom_field_strings).
