Mantis Web Server /DB Configuration

Mantis 1.2.0a1 - latest release.
How's Manits performance/ease of configuring on IIS 5 and above / MS Sql 2000 (remote db)? Judging from postings in this forum, the installation out of the box is neither straighforward nor stable. Is the preferred configuration Apache / MySql respectively? Comments on your experiences and knowledge is appreciated.
