matis is too slow

i was using manits 0.18.3 with Apache 1.3, mysql 3.2 and php4. this group working very fast. then i prefer to pass mantis 1.0.0a2. for example when i click to login i am waiting 1 second approximately. the db isn't very big. only 1900 bugs. what should i do to speed up the mantis?

I have the same problÃ¨me, and I think I know the reason. In the left bottom corner, I can read

87 total queries executed.
78 unique queries executed.

There is really 87 SQL queries each times I show this page? If so (I didn't have time to browse source code) I understand why Mantis is so slow (and I will try to change bug report tool)
I love the way Mantis work, but without a dedicated server it does not work.

This is being tracked under #5889.

As an aside, I've seen CMS systems that do 500 queries per page.
