Keep incomplete issues in new versions

We've been using the Roadmap feature extensively lately and I'm wondering if there was a way to have unresolved tickets carryover from one iteration to the next without losing the original target version. We need the roadmap to display what version an issue was submitted in and how many versions (iterations in our company) it took before it was actually resolved. In other words, keeping the same ticket uncrossed out across several versions on the roadmap.

We've tried creating clones of the original ticket and relating them to each other, but with different target versions for each one. This works but creates unnecessary duplicates of the same issue.

Before we resort to creating a custom field to keep track of the "original version" and creating a custom page to mimic the roadmap, is there an existing option/plug-in I can implement to accomplish this feature?

Thanks for the link! We managed to incorporate something similar to replace our roadmap.
