upgrade from v1.2.16 - 2.27.0

Hello,
absolute beginner with MantisBT ...
If I get this correctly, a good approach is to make a copy of a running MantisBT instance
(e.g. I made a new virtual server, get all files over, import the db)
and, after assuring all works fine and as expected,
perform an upgrade.

What do you recommend:
A) upgrade from v1.2.16 -> 2.0 -> 2.27.0
or
B) upgrade from v1.2.16 -> v.1.3.20 -> 2.0 -> 2.27.0
or
C) upgrade from v1.2.16 -> 2.27.0?

Is it always better to upgrade to the lowest new level, like 2.0?

Is there an upgrade guide v1 vs v2?

I would go for option 1, please bear in mind that also PHP requirements etcetera may be changed

The best way to upgrade heavily depends on the PHP version you are using at the moment and the version you want to use in future.
