Basically, it's used by projects (such as Mantis) where a reported issue can be sponsored by one or more users. Not really useful in an internal environment but good for external installations of Mantis.

For example... I may want a feature added to Mantis: I report it in the tracker and then sponsor the issue to basically say 'and I will pay $x when it is implemented'. If other people want to sponsor an issue they can do that, too.

Well, it would be up to the individual project to determine that. As far as I know, there's no 'automated' payment processing or anything: that is all managed after the fact.

Are you talking about the Mantis project in particular, or any random project that uses Mantis?

It would help if you were a little more talkative :)

"Read it... still have not answered it...". Remember, this thread has started to have three main questions:
1) "what are the sponsorship fields about?". Surely that link has explained that.
2) "who gets paid when I sponsor some random project?". Obviously we can't answer that.
3) "who gets paid when I sponsor the Mantis project in particular?". Maybe that link didn't explain all of that.

Tell us what it is that did not get answered, otherwise we will be going around in circles.

No offence, but everytime I see forum posts that say "no, that's not it" it reminds me of when I was a kid, trying to guess a number between 1 and 10. At least tell us if it's higher or lower :)

Is sponsorship used in the mantis development?

Post by jotango »

Hello,

just to take this thread in a slightly different direction ;-)

I have an issue I am missing from mantis. If I post a feature request with an added sponsorship amount in the mantis mantis, will someone be interested? Is someone looking through the issues for sponsored issues? It is not a huge request (an extra graph), so the bounty would not be huge, but maybe for somebody...

jotango, I suggest you report the issue and see how it goes. Whether a developer will pick it up or not will depend on three things:

1. How interesting is the feature?
2. How big is the bounty?
3. How much work is involved?
