When using Eclipse is the mantisconnect plugin needed or should it be possible to connect to mantis without mantisconnect? Should it be installed on both sides or is installing the plugin at the Eclipse side enough?

It depends on what version of mantis you use.
Mantisconnect is included since version... I don't remember
