We started this in order to stop the spam until we install some automated anti-spam module like the one we use for the blog (akismet). Before then there was a flood of spam which cause people to complain. Since, I've activated moderation, I get less complains than before I did. I typically provide active users with the ability to by pass moderation and moderate other responses with a goal to reduce the time for moderation.
