Isn't it the monitor feature?

I would hesitate to add this as the recipients may have no way to control the messages. It could violate the new US SPAM laws.

Could this be added as a feature that could be enabled at all? Here's how we use mantis in our group... I'm developer support for our project and tend to get requests via email for providing some level of support. I use mantis to track this and have a tendency to ask the user to create a mantis account and add the request in so it can be tracked. There's usually a couple other folks that would like to be notified when the support is completed, usually a manager and a couple developers, but they all need to create accounts and click the Monitor button. It would save everyone a bit of time if the user creating the task request could add other users (at least) and/or email addresses to monitor the bug. If it was an email address, perhaps the system can create a default password and account for the user and get things rolling that way, so all interested parties have a mantis account.

any thoughts?

Are the others already defined in Mantis as developers?

If so, email notifications are generated for most mantis events. The $g_notify*_flags control the generation of the recipient list. It is covered in the manus and 0003458.

No, most of them are updaters. I'd really like the ability to add users to the notification list or monitor list of a bug when I either create or update a bug. That would be ideal.

If possible, it would be nice if email addresses could be added to the monitor list of a bug during creation or update.. perhaps the resulting function of that would be an account would be created for each address entered, maybe comman separated. Perhaps a check-box could be added that allowed me to control the ability to create accounts for users. But, basically, the ability to add an email address to the monitor list is the only desired function.

I wouldn't mind if this was a configurable option as described in the bug mentioned above.

You can do that for users with existing accounts by:

  • Make sure that $g_reminder_recipents_monitor_bug is set to ON.
  • Send them a reminder. This will send them a notification about the reminder, then add them to the monitor list.

Isn't it "monitor issue"?

okay, I can see how the reminder feature is useful. Is there any way I can do this when I create a bug, tho? Is it possible to add this ability in a future release?

I really appreciate taking the time to discuss this.

This feature request is covered by existing functionality (reminders, monitoring), therefore closing as no change required.
