Attachments and Svn Questions

Post by Mantaray »

Hi,

Mantis is a great tool, thanks! I have some questions I would appreciate some help with:

i) Is there an easy way to store attachments in svn?

ii) Are there any show-stoppers in 1.1.0rc3?

iii) I have triggered commit messages from svn to mantis but I wasn't keen on information being appended as comments in issues. Comments are for people! I would prefer live access and pull info from svn on request.

e.g.
Have a collapsed box which when clicked will query and display commits for this issue:

Collapsed:
[+]

Viewed (will query)
[-]
1/1/7 567 $/myproject/myfile.c
1/2/7 568 $/myproject/myfile.c

Does this sound viable performance wise etc.?
Am I reinventing the wheel?
Is it possible in straight php?
If not what would be the better approach?

thanks for your time!

Great that you like it :)

No, you will have to implement that. Mantis supports DISK, DATABASE, and FTP. The current recommended approach is DISK. Why do you think SVN is useful compared to disk? I mean given that attachments never change once they are added.
ii) Are there any show-stoppers in 1.1.0rc3?
It is recommended to use Mantis 1.1.1.
iii) I have triggered commit messages from svn to mantis but I wasn't keen on information being appended as comments in issues. Comments are for people! I would prefer live access and pull info from svn on request.
Given that the description of a commit never changes, why don't you want it added? Do you want to save the overhead of storing the comment? Or do you consider that it pollutes the other comments? I see both options are fine. So far we have been doing the push into Mantis model, we haven't done the pull from SVN model. Contributions are welcome. I think your approach can work fine where a developer supplies an SVN checkin version as part of resolving an issue.
